Open Gardens

Garden Glory

Our village Open Garden Trail runs every few years. Our most recent event was on Sunday 6th July 2025 under glorious blue skies and sunshine.  We are lucky enough to have plenty of keen gardeners in our village, some of whom are kind enough to open their beautiful gardens to the public from time to time. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity, not only in allowing visitors to explore their gardens, but also for the time they give both during and before the event.

Those gardens we have had the pleasure of including so far have ranged from small and beautifully planned courtyards, relaxed wildlife and bee friendly havens, through to large formal gardens. With the river Kennet running through the village, many of our gardeners are lucky enough to have this rare chalk stream habitat running along the bottom of their gardens.

Whether your garden is a manicured marvel, or a wildlife wilderness, or, like most of us, something in between, you are sure to find plenty of ideas and a lot of pleasure and relaxation wandering around the gardens on offer.

The lectern and information board located at our magnificent London Plane Tree in the centre of the village was paid for with funds raised at the open garden trail in 2023. This gives a little information on the village and the local area along with some suggestions for local walks.  QR codes take you to the Chilton Foliat website. The event held in 2018 paid for the galvanised steel planters located at the village gates at either end of the village on the B4192. All profits from each event go back into village projects.

For more regular gardening tips and events, we also have a thriving gardening group, The Foliat Forkers, who organise trips and visits to gardening events, as well as having regular meet ups to exchange ideas, seeds, plants, gardening books and tips.

We hope to see you at our next garden trail!
